Shortly before his death, Rudolf Steiner described how the Spirit connected with the source of human evolution disappeared from our concept of Nature and was replaced by a powerful Ahrimanic spirit as our technological civilization advanced. In these last words, he stressed the urgency of finding a conscious experience of spirit knowledge, wherein we will be able to rediscover the Spirit source and develop the inner capacity to prevail. When we look at the trajectory of technical advancement since that time, we can only conclude that the urgency is even greater. How do we recognize the Ahrimanic spirit in ourselves and others? How do we confront and rise above it? My talk will grapple with these questions in the context of today’s scientific and biotechnological advances.
