Judith Erb was born and raised in a North Dakota farming family. Judith’s early love for both chemistry and music led her to the University of California, Berkeley where she obtained her B.S in Chemistry with a minor in music. Her M.S in biochemistry comes from Cal Tech where she also completed candidacy requirements for her PhD.  In the early 1970s he joined the research faculty at Wayne State University and Lafayette Clinic in Detroit, Michigan where she researched and published work on hormonal desynchronization in schizophrenia. 

While interrupting her professional work to raise her two children, she discovered Anthroposophy. through their experience as Waldorf students in Ann Arbor. She joined the School for Spiritual Science in 1995.   After attending the summer Waldorf teacher training programs at the Rudolf Steiner College in Sacramento, California, the Center for Anthroposophy in Wilton, N.H. and the Nature Institute in Ghent, NY, she became a middle school class teacher and was the Ann Arbor high school’s founding teacher in biology and chemistry.  There she wrote musicals in which the students sang and acted out characters having the essential nature of the material being explored through laboratory experimental work. Later, she and her physicist husband, Jim, founded a company, ThreeFold Sensors, which invented and patented sensitive fiber optic sensor instruments that measured the real time accumulation of specific fluorescent molecules.  They accomplished this by separating light’s magnetic field from its electric field. The evanescent field thus generated detected fluorescent molecules on fiber surfaces without detecting those in the surrounding solution. 

Now, retired, she enjoys gardening with her grandchildren and worked with Arie Van Ameringen to translate into English Otto Wolff’s book entitled “Fundamentals of Biochemistry in the Light of Spiritual Science.  She currently serves on the Steering Committee of its Natural Science Section for North America.
