What is the MysTech Conference about?

MysTech is dedicated to driving positive change for our future by guiding the role that technology will play in society and human evolution through the lens of spiritual science.

Over the past century, we have witnessed astonishing technological advancements that have profoundly impacted our daily lives, health, and consciousness—often in unexpected ways. When we consider these developments in the context of our evolution as both physical and spiritual beings, we are led to important questions: How might technology contribute to our future? Will ongoing advances serve as a benefit or become a burden to the true potential of humankind? And how must we respond to modern technological trends to shape a future aligned with the good?

At this conference, you will gain fresh insights into the mysteries of technology from the perspective of spiritual science, presented through the original research of our distinguished speakers across a wide range of compelling topics. You will also deepen your appreciation for social threefolding, biodynamics, eurythmy, and more—and discover how these approaches and ways of thinking can empower us to meet the challenges of the modern age.

What have we learned; what can we do?

In this conference, we will have heard a wide variety of views on the incarnation of Ahriman. Which view is right? Can they all be right? What is the new Michaelic gesture towards community building? Can we do this? Does fear separate us? How can we build community as we face this incarnation of Ahriman?

Andrew Linnell, is co-founder of MysTech, an organization seeking to realize Rudolf Steiner’s indications on Mechanical Occultism. He retired from a 42-year career in the computer industry in 2013 wherein he had worked as CTO and VP for various companies. He has served as president of the Boston branch of the Anthroposophical Society and a member of the Natural Science Section. He is the father of three and the author of two children’s books, three art history books, and nine MysTech study guidebooks.

Individual Spiritual Discernment and the Development of a Spiritual Commonsense - Ahead of Ahriman’s Incarnation

If we wish to discern the world correctly so that we can stand firm amidst the increasing confusion and chaos we see around us today, we urgently need to develop the faculty of individual spiritual discernment. However, just as the rigorous methods of contemporary science have created a community founded on common agreement regarding physical First Principles, it is imperative that we work no less rigorously as individual Spiritual Scientists to create a community founded on a ‘common sense’ based on our agreement regarding Spiritual Scientific First Principles. In this lecture, we will explore the Individual Power of Spiritual Discernment, and how we can, through its development, create the foundation for a Communal Spiritual Commonsense.

Adriana Koulias lives in Sydney, Australia from where she reaches a worldwide audience through her posts on Facebook and recordings of her lectures to Anthroposophical audiences. Her many lectures on esoteric Christianity, the Cathars, Christian Rosenkreutz, Sorat and his evil in evolution, the Michael School, the Anthroposophical Society.

She is also an award winning author in literary fiction. Born in Brazil and educated in Australia, she has written four books in the Rosicrucian Series. Her books have been published in six languages and are international bestsellers with over 450,000 sold. ‘The Seal’ was awarded a Dymocks Critics Award and the ‘The Sixth Key’ was long-listed for the prestigious Ned Kelly and Davitt Awards for crime fiction. Adriana self-published her first novel ‘Temple of the Grail’ and shortly after was signed to a two book deal with Picador, the literary imprint of Pan Macmillan.

Becoming Awake in the Etheric

Doing Spiritual Scientific Research

Why is meditation so important to prepare us for Ahriman’s incarnation? What kind of meditation? How are its results effective for facing Ahriman? Can we go beyond Ahriman’s mechanical model for the Human Being? What are we? How might new meditation help us to become more aware of our humanity? We will explore how using meditative practices can awaken us to the elementals – even the Ahrimanic elementals. We can use such meditative practices to help redeem.

Inessa Burdich is a Spiritual Science researcher and a therapeutic consultant for individuals and organizations. She is a Trustee for a Rudolf Steiner research and educational trust dedicated to supporting individuals with special needs and leads courses in Anthroposophical meditation and supersensible perception. After graduating as a physicist, she embarked on an international business career spanning two decades. She began to work as a personal development courses leader in 1996. In 2018, she founded Spiritual Science Research which offers courses, talks and workshops on Anthroposophical Meditation and Supersensible perception

Awakening to the Great Challenge Posed by the Incarnation of Ahriman

The Collective Crossing of the Threshold and Facing the Mystery of Evil

Drawing upon Rudolf Steiner’s prophetic indications from regarding the physical incarnation of Ahriman in the West “in the not-too-distant future,” this presentation will explore the mystery of evil through the lens of The Representative of Humanity sculptural group. We will trace the long-prepared groundwork for Ahriman’s influence: the rise of scientific materialism, the dominance of economic forces over cultural and spiritual life, divisive nationalism, racial hatred, the fundamentalist approach to the Gospels, and the increasing pervasiveness of lies and misinformation. Special attention will be given to the battle within the sphere of intelligence, contrasting the Michaelic and Ahrimanic approach, the tension between subnature and supernature, and the spiritual significance of the emergence of the Noosphere through the internet, artificial intelligence, transhumanism, and the looming advent of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and Artificial Superintelligence (ASI).

In the face of these developments, which fit within centuries-long preparation for Ahriman’s incarnation, we will ask: what can those who are awake and watchful do? Among the essential remedies are a conscious orientation toward the Second Coming of Christ in the Etheric realm, heightened inner connection with the Archangel Michael as the Countenance of Christ and his new role as Archai, and the spiritualization of human intelligence through freely chosen inner development. Humanities, Collectively Crossing of the Threshold, calls for a new spiritual relationship based on freedom—while recognizing that Ahriman seeks to capture human thinking and lead it into the Eighth Sphere in collaboration with Luciferic powers. Understanding and meeting this challenge is crucial for the future of human evolution.

Super and Sub-nature through the eyes of Eurythmy

We live in an age where machines are doing much of our labor. We sit still often for hours in front of screens. In this workshop, we will explore how the movement of eurythmy not only acts as a movement counterbalance to technology, but it also helps to expand our consciousness into the etheric.

Theodor Hundhammer is the founder of Eurythmy4you. He has an eurythmy therapy practice in Bern and Biel, Switzerland, offering online sessions and in-person classes. Theodor’s work integrates his engineering background, his spiritual and therapeutic exploration of Eurythmy, and his commitment to global health and healing.

After earning a degree in mechanical engineering, Theodor worked for four years as a plant engineer at WALA-Heilmittel GmbH, during which time he explored the spiritual significance of technology for humans. He later studied Eurythmy and Eurythmy Therapy in the Netherlands and Germany. In addition to his therapeutic work, he worked with FAIRMED from 2007 to 2011 as a project administrator for health initiatives in Africa and Asia. From 2011 to 2020, Theodor served as board member and president of the Eurythmy Therapy Professional Association Switzerland.

The Dark Lord of the Virtual World

How can we prepare for the incarnation of Ahriman? It is an important topic for the world—one that I first became occupied with back in 1997. Steiner advised his listeners that it would be “of the very greatest importance that we should approach the coming incarnation of Ahriman with full consciousness of this event.” But how can we bring the world to consciousness of this? I would like to examine four “horcruxes”—four examples of these late-historical Ahrimanic forms: 1) Virtual reality, 2) the Psy-op, 3) Finance, and 4) Artificial Intelligence. I suppose I could restate this list as 1) Fake reality, 2) Fake information, 3) Fake money and 4) Fake consciousness.

Eric Cunningham is a Professor of History at Gonzaga University. A specialist in modern Japanese intellectual history, he received an MA in modern Japanese literature from the University of Oregon in 1999, and a PhD in History from the same institution in 2004. Cunningham’s research interests include Japanese intellectual history, Zen Buddhism, Catholicism, Anthroposophy, the history of consciousness, and postmodernism. He is the author of Hallucinating the End of History: Nishida, Zen, and the Psychedelic Eschaton, (Academica Press, 2007), and Zen Past and Present (Association for American Studies, 2011), and The Luciferic Verses: The Daodejing and the Esoteric Roots of Chinese History (Lindisfarne Books 2023). Prof. Cunningham lectures and writes on a wide range of topics, including Japanese history, film, and spirituality in the age of digital information.

Jeremy Smith

With an Attitude Worthy of Humanity

With an Attitude Worthy of Humanity

In a lecture given at Dornach on 1st November 1919, Rudolf Steiner said the following: “To the extent to which people can be roused into conducting their affairs not for material ends alone but also so as to incorporate a free and independent spiritual life alongside economic life, as an integral part of the social organism — to that same extent Ahriman’s incarnation will be awaited with an attitude worthy of humanity.”

Many phenomena now discernible in the world are indicative of the impending incarnation of Ahriman, and perhaps even the actual incarnation itself. In this talk, Jeremy will examine some of these phenomena, not only in the context of Steiner’s lectures on this topic but also by looking at examples of what has developed over the last 100 years. Jeremy will also touch on some of the latest ways in which the work of Ahriman is seeking to capture the souls of human beings, thus diverting us away from our intended evolutionary path and propelling us towards the Eighth Sphere.

Steiner has told us that: “Humanity on earth cannot escape this incarnation of Ahriman. It will come inevitably. But what matters is that people shall find the right vantage point from which to confront it.” So, this talk will also look at some ways in which we can prepare ourselves accordingly.

Jeremy Smith, after many years working in various branches of education, including distance learning for the trade union Nalgo, and several years as the education facilitator in a Steiner Waldorf school, Jeremy was asked in 2014 to join the Board of Tablehurst Biodynamic Farm in Forest Row, East Sussex, where he took on the role of registered manager of the farm’s care home, a small residential facility for three adults with learning disabilities. He retired from the farm in January 2024 but continues to be busy, not only as a board director of Emerson College UK and a trustee of an anthroposophical charity, the Hermes Trust, but also as a director of the anthroposophical publishing house, Temple Lodge Press. In 2014 Jeremy started a weblog with an anthroposophical perspective on world affairs and spiritual development: https://anthropopper.com.  Married with two children, he has recently become a grandfather for the first time and is also a keen gardener.

Reality Creation – Which World, Which Future, Which You

We are witnessing the birth of a new world—an evolution of the internet and social media into a fully immersive, 3D digital realm. Already this world can be accessed using VR goggles, allowing people to transfer their sense of self to avatars in virtual space. Direct connection using computer brain interfaces will be a further development in the near future. Individuals may gain abilities beyond their current limitations and tap into a new global consciousness. Could this be the next step in humanity’s evolution?

David O’Hagan is a music producer, sound engineer, and instrument maker with a deep interest in technology. Born in the UK, he has also lived in Switzerland and Brazil. These experiences have shaped his perspective on music and creativity. From a young age, David was fascinated by technology, often dismantling electronics and anything mechanical to uncover how they worked. This curiosity evolved into a lifelong pursuit of understanding sound and digital systems. His time at the Anthrotech Institute deepened his expertise, offering him valuable insights into the nature of digital technology and its intersection with human experience.

Who are we? Where are we Going?

Who are we? Where are we Going?

Shortly before his death, Rudolf Steiner described how the Spirit connected with the source of human evolution disappeared from our concept of Nature and was replaced by a powerful Ahrimanic spirit as our technological civilization advanced. In these last words, he stressed the urgency of finding a conscious experience of spirit knowledge, wherein we will be able to rediscover the Spirit source and develop the inner capacity to prevail. When we look at the trajectory of technical advancement since that time, we can only conclude that the urgency is even greater. How do we recognize the Ahrimanic spirit in ourselves and others? How do we confront and rise above it? My talk will grapple with these questions in the context of today’s scientific and biotechnological advances.

Doug Smith acquainted with Anthroposophy in 1981 – the same year in which he completed his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Cornell University. Doug’s professional career has focused on human genetics, genome sequencing, molecular diagnostics and therapeutic genome editing. In parallel he has continued to explore spiritual science and the hidden world of beings that drive human and cosmic evolution. Continuing to balance and navigate these inner and outer paths has been a lifelong pursuit and challenge.

Recognizing the attacks of evil is one thing. Confronting these attacks is a more complicated challenge. However: how can I create armor against these attacks? – that is the central practical question of this talk.

My focus will be on the questions such as: 1) How to recognize the working of Ahriman?, 2) How to confront the working of Ahriman?, and 3) How to shield oneself from the working of Ahriman? – with my emphasis on the third question. I will speak about experiences with meditation. See my books ‘Ways to Christian Meditation’ (Floris Books) and ‘Meditation in der westlichen Welt’ (Verlag am Goetheanum). See also the chapter ‘Manichaeism and the Redemption of Evil’ in my newest book ’Trust in the Future’ (Floris Books).

Bastiaan Baan (*1949) was born in The Netherlands. After teacher training, he worked at a ghetto school in Los Angeles (called ’The roughest place in the world’), in Gandhi Schools in the slums of India and as a Waldorf teacher in The Netherlands. From 1981 on, he works as a priest and lecturer in The Christian Community and as a teacher in the priest training in Germany and the US. He has written several books on the themes of spirituality and religion (see Bastiaan Baan – AbeBooks). He and his wife Æola have 4 sons and 12 grandchildren.

The Western World Order as a platform for Ahriman

The rise of technocratic societies has created excellent conditions to manipulate the masses through the media, to exercise mind control, to spread worldwide fear. Ahrimanic beings are working through a technological infrastructure, influencing our consciousness and undermining our creative, moral and spiritual intelligence. The Western World Order is ready for the emergence of Ahriman. The United States might lose their dominant position due to the ascent of a plurilateral world order, but this does not have to hinder Ahriman, who will work globally and according to the Russian mystic Vladimir Soloviev, present himself as a world savior. Bringing light into the coming Ahrimanic darkness, Rudolf Steiner spoke of the Second Coming of Christ and of the necessity to create an infrastructure of spiritual communities in which Christ can work.

Harrie Salman (1953) studied philosophy and social sciences and taught cultural philosophy at the universities of Leiden (Holland) and Prague (Czech Republic). He worked worldwide with people dedicated to spiritual growth and cultural renewal. He wrote books on anthroposophy and history of culture, among them The Social World as Mystery Center, The Great Reset, Rudolf Steiner and Peter Deunov, and Valentin Tomberg, all published in the US. His new book will deal with the Western World Order.

Love is Born of Pain

What new capacities, I ask myself, are evolving in human beings worldwide, as Ahriman’s incarnation draws ever closer and the whole earth, with all its creatures, goes through the birth pangs of suffering and death? How, too, can we deal with this level of danger and uncertainty?

Benjamin Cherry, originally from the UK and with a master’s degree in Law from Cambridge, a 1st MB from Birmingham and a Diploma of Education from NSW Australia, Ben has lived, worked and travelled through five continents and has given talks or courses on all of them. His search for peace and for answers to the huge social, cultural and environmental issues he encountered as a young man, beginning with his experience as a teacher and journalist in Vietnam during the war, led him five decades ago through many spiritual streams to the work of Rudolf Steiner in a school for severely disadvantaged children in England.

He later co-founded and taught in a school in Australia and has been mentoring and giving courses in many parts of the Asia-Pacific region since the beginning of this century, especially China. He now lives in Taiwan, where he has been writing for the UK magazine New View, the Hawaii-based Pacifica Journal and other publications, about what he perceives to be taking place beneath the surface of things at this time. His recent book, In Search of the Heart’s Sense of Truth: A Life Journey, published by InterActions in Stroud, England, is an offspring of this life journey of questing and questioning. And of living with not knowing.

Achieving Enlightenment in the Age of Technology

Achieving Enlightenment in the Age of Technology

Spiritual science helps us understand the very purpose of life. Through the study of spiritual science, we can experience how the human being is being formed – how we are all in the divine cauldron of creation. We are a work in progress, moving through development arcs ordained by mighty spiritual beings. Enlightenment, or the birth of the higher self, is a natural, wonderful process, through which an individual truly becomes a human being. Most of us are apprenticing at being a human being, and some days better than others. But we can take this situation in hand. We can, once we are clear on what is required, put our backs into it. We can accelerate this natural process of becoming in a wholesome way by undertaking meditative efforts which facilitate our development. As part of his talk, Robert will provide an overview of the meditative path, showing how it must begin with aspects of everyday consciousness that hide developmental potential. These occult doorways are hidden in plain sight. Rudolf Steiner shows us where to find them, how to open them, and what we will experience as we cross these thresholds of becoming. Robert will address questions such as, “can I still achieve enlightenment when I am immersed in the realm of Ahriman” or “if my job requires 10 hours a day of computer time, must I do something different to attain enlightenment” or “given how much the world has changed in the last 100 years, are there additional steps to attain enlightenment today?”

Robert McKay is an anthroposophist and a student of Rudolf Steiner’s. He is the chair of the board of the Rudolf Steiner College Canada, a member of the Toronto Branch of the Anthroposophical Society in Canada and a member of the Class of the School of Spiritual Science as well as an active member of the Section for the Literary Arts and Humanities. Robert works as a healthcare consultant and lives in Toronto with his wife Linda Chapman.
